Dutch designer Sander Lak presented his Autumn/Winter 2020 collection a few days before the opening of Countryside, The Future at New York’s Guggenheim Museum. The exhibition explores remote territories to better address the challenges of our urban society. The idea originates from research led by Rem Koolhaas and Samir Bental, Director of AMO, the think tank of the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA), which was founded by Koolhaas in 1975. A partial sponsor of the exhibition, Sies Marjan reflected on countryside and city-living (the collection was presented on the 54th floor of a New York skyscraper) by initiating collaborations both on and off the runway. Within the collection, three silhouettes were designed hand in hand with Dutch textile artist Claudy Jongstra, incorporating a limited-edition color of her Drenthe Heath wool treatment. The collection’s collaborative quality extends as a capsule collection launched at the Guggenheim gift shop in collaboration with AMO. “We wanted to create something collaborative and accessible with AMO to celebrate the launch of the exhibition,” Lak explained.
