Athletic Commute

Luxury as a means to elevate the mundane, not just figuratively through refinement and status, but by reconnecting us to the physical essence of what luxury goods represents: leading-edge innovation and excellent craftsmanship.

As work, leisure, and wellness intertwine, neologisms like “dressletic” or “performance suit” have been hinting at new horizons for the daily wardrobe. This was evident at Tod’s and Boss this season, where Matteo Tamburini and Marco Falcioni respectively presented collections visibly anchored in the everyday vestiaire. In his collection titled Out of Office, Falcioni expanded the corp-core DNA of the house into something more holistic, embracing the various facets of one’s daily life. Leggings were layered under leather skirts, while yoga mats spilled from satchels slung nonchalantly over the models’ shoulders.

The use of commuting and mundane endeavors as inspiration has been made tangible in past seasons with quirky props such as dry-cleaning packaging or helmets reimagined as bags. Echoing Bourdieu’s Distinction and its exploration of the relationship between fashion consumption and class, these were functional objects stripped of their practicality, reduced to their forms for the sake of sumptuary consumption.

Yet this season, to find a balanced ground between practicality and indulgence, you had to look to Johanna Parv. The Estonian designer, presenting her first collection outside the Fashion East écurie for SS ‘25, brings a solution-based ethos directly inspired by her life as a cyclist. Now supported by NewGen, she has, over time, developed a brand lexicon that feels precise and intentional, expertly addressing new niches with a clear, empirical approach.

Within this idea of “fashion in motion” lies fertile ground for brands to propose innovative solutions tailored to their customers’ lifestyles. This is luxury that genuinely elevates the everyday, not by helping cosplaying a certain upbringing, but through craftsmanship and purposeful collaboration. In challenging times, where designers are not exactly encouraged to take risks, even the simplest designs can make a strong impact. By embracing intentionality and relevance, they hold the power to create something truly transformative.
